Bio
In 1981-82 a local punk-new wave band FORWARD CHILDHOOD split up . The band consisted of Keith (BARNY) Barnard on guitar ,Janette Baker on vocals ,Allen (HOGGI)Hogarth on bass ,and Martin (GUNNER) Gunn on drums . Barny wanted the band to stick with the punk sound but the other members wanted to move on . So together with Colin (COL) Wiltshire on guitar and Barny on bass and vocals they recruited Ian (DICKO) Dickens to play drums .SNIDE REMARKS was born . The band were together for a couple of months when they played there first gig at Stockton's Y.M.C.A. Barny wasn't happy on bass so Ross Weston took over .The band was now a four piece and went of too do several gigs and a demo at Bull's-eye Studio .The demo was played on local radio TEES over a few nights . Not long after this Barny and Col had there indifferences and Col left. Barny , Dicko and Ross tried to keep it together with help from a close friend Barry (BAZ) Walker ,who took over on vocals, but sadly things weren't meant to be. Ten years later Barny met up with new hopeful Kevin (ANDY)Bain who took up learning the bass and together they came up with some cracking tunes. The two of them decided to build a new SNIDE REMARKS .Once again BAZ Walker helped out on vocals but couldn't commit himself to join the band permanent .Andrew(BIG VERN)Vernell came in as drummer, and John(GIBBO)Gibbs joined as vocalist. SNIDE REMARKS did lots of local gigs and a few rough demos at studio 64 in middlesbrough.Things were tough at first and changes were made with Bugsy from THE AMAZING SPACEFROGS briefly stepping in on vocals, and Bam-Bam from THE HANGMEN on drums .Barny,Andy,Vern and Gibbo decided put there differences aside and continued. Personal problems started to get in the way of the band and sadly curtain members fell out as friends, the band split. As people mature you suddenly realise what mistakes you have made in life, Barny and Andy got back together to talk about the good old days and what if the band had continued ,how far could they have taken it? This inspired them to have another go at it. Barny and Andy convinced an old mate Paul(BRAD)Bradley to join them as vocalist and rhythm guitarist, and Brad brought Richie (RICCO)Idol in on drums. The two of them played together in another band and SNIDE REMARKS was just another side line for them. Brad had other commitments and didn't last very long. However Ricco stayed and enjoyed every minute of it. SNIDE REMARKS put out a plea for a singer and Robert(ROB)Thompson replied and took over as vocalist. The band went into Cut'n'sussed studio in Durham and made a better demo than ever before and planned to release it through there web site ,but the cover for the album was not up to expectations and the band held back on the release. Andy and Ricco started to bicker about the drumming, and Rob had a career change which forced him to put the band on hold. Andy left and Ricco's mate Nigel took over on bass.Barny asked once again old friend Baz to help out on vocals whilst Rob sorted his career out. Nigel and Ricco decided Baz was a better man for the job and Barny asked Baz to stay permanent. Andy wanted to return to the band which forced Nigel out, and Ricco to leave because of indifferences. Once again it was back to the drawing board. After several talks and auditions with many timewasteing drummers SNIDE REMARKS finally came across (SPIDER) thru local guitarist Andy Wilson ex No-way,Spider is an old school punk drummer who's been in many bands. Then just as things were coming together Kevandy decided he did 't want to do the live shows so we advertised and found Gemma a young bassist but after a few months after a promising start she did'nt meet expectations. So a request for help was put out and Nigel returned to the band to help out. The four plan to continue to blast melodic rhythms and strange stage antic's to whoever dare visit there gigs. In 2010 SNIDE REMARKS will return to the studio to re-record the fantastic work they have written over the years and present new songs. BE PREPARED FOR DECIBELS (you won't need your hearing aids)
